Chuck Vs. The American Hero
“Don’t freak out. Don’t. Freak. Out.”
At the beginning, Chuck has arrived at DNI Headquarters, however, much to his dismay, he has forgotten which floor General Beckman is located on. I always love it when they start the show off with an amusing bit. It just seems to set the tone for the rest of the show. Although this episode is not necessarily humerus, it does lighten my feelings and attitude towards this particular episode, considering how the last one finished.
It would take a lot for Chuck to actually turn into a serious, real spy, as you might have been able to tell from the casual gun flinging. He tries to make little incidents such as this one to make a joke, however, sometimes Chuck will have to know when and how to act, especially in the office of the General. Not everyone can take a joke.
“No thanks. She’s all ready there.”
All right, I’m going to give into my Charah-ness and squeal. I love how he said this with such confidence, as if he absolutely KNEW that he was going to win her back. That was a fabulous demonstration of how amazing an actor Zach Levi really is. Bravo.
When Casey described Shaw as a “Stallion”, I had to back track. Really? I, personally, don’t see it. I’m sorry for you Shaw fans, which I am not, but he does not come across to me as handsome.
“Really? Anyone? Including a civilian with an extensive military background?”
The fact that Casey isn’t on their team anymore makes me pretty sad. The team just doesn’t seem complete without that sturdy, no jokes guy who threatens Chuck’s life every episode. Now there is just an emotionally confused woman, a man trying to win her back, and a man who has the annoyingly perfect spy factor. Why oh why must Casey be gone?
When I saw Chuck making his way down into the Castle, I immediately though He’s screwed. As far as we saw, he had no plan and no tactics whatsoever. He seriously hurt her, “killed” a guy, and left her in the arms of a guy who doesn’t seem like he really cares. Well that’s all in my opinion. Do any of you think that he had anything whatsoever to back him up in that conversation? Anything that will make him seem as less a man-killing-jerk?
“You’re not the same guy that I fell for.”
To be perfectly blunt, this made me quite sad. When Sarah said the above quote, there were so many things that flashed through my head. Sarah first walking into the Buy More, they’re first date, all of the times Sarah flashed her “Chuck” smile, as all of us fans know it as, and so much more. However, I think that she had just said the thing that all of us Charah fans were afraid to admit. I think that the one thing that we can all wish for now is that he will prove himself to her and show Sarah how much he is different from Shaw and how he isn’t much different from that guy that we all met 3 years ago at the Buy More.
During this conversation is a beautiful validation of how sensational an actress Yvonne Strahovski is. She controls her facial emotions so well that it makes us even second guess how she really feels.
I’ve always found it the slightest bit amusing when Chuck says that he was going to quit being a spy. How would that work? I mean, he still has the Intersect in his head, knows the first name of his old handler, and has connections to some of the best spies in the world! There’s no way he would get out of that organization alive. Can anyone think of any reasons why he might be admitted out of the CIA? I sure can’t…
“That’s where you’re wrong, Casey. ‘Cause love…love is a battlefield.”
When everyone clambered on into the van it made me remember when they stalked Anna’s boyfriend in the first season. As they were parked in the parking lot and had that fabulous conversation, I couldn’t help but laugh. Sure, Captain Awesome had tons of lady experience, but Morgan and Casey? Really? That just bemused me quite a bit as they all started giving him advice. And again, Stallion? Really? That might be because he moves too fast. Haha.
When Morgan begins to draw Shaw to him, on accident, he is slowly leading the two enemies towards each other. And that bring on the inevitable. We all know that as we watch the two people heading towards each other, a fight is going to ensue. But with Morgan in the mix, who knows what’s going to happen? Well, I do, because I’ve seen the episode before. Hah. Although, I’d have to admit, this is rather clever for Morgan, but wouldn’t Casey know that Shaw would most likely have a tracking device on him? At least they would know to take precautions, rather than rushing in.
“What are you saying?”
When that conversation began, the whole kitchen was silent (and my whole family was in there). We were all desperate to see what would happen and if he would win her back. Much to our dismay (well, not so much to my dad’s) Shaw and Awesome dove through the window, interrupting Sarah and Chuck’s desperately important conversation. Thanks again, Shaw. I blame you.
How Ellie reacts to the boys’ jail time is classic. It is exactly how I would picture Ellie reacting if any of them did something stupid, which seemed happened periodically. This rant was something that seemed necessary to the episode, as the past ones lacked a lot of Sarah Lancaster. This sort of new side that she is showing is more motherly than the past seasons where she has been slightly more incautious and carefree. I just find it particularly entertaining that I see Ellie’s point exactly. Going to Awesome, Casey and Morgan for help with is love life? I know that Chuck can’t particularly tell her that he’s a spy, but he could have relayed most of the facts. Do you guys agree with Chuck’s decision, or seriously doubt it?
When Ellie told Chuck off about Sarah, that struck a nerve. No, I’ve never had an experience like that. It’s just that what she said really explained a lot of what I believe a lot, if not all, of the audience was feeling. Chuck may have gone to great distance to win Sarah back, but it wasn’t good enough. He didn’t get her. This is how I imagined Ellie talking to him about this seasons ago when they were new and really in love, even if neither Sarah nor Chuck saw or understood it yet. Now the fight is about passion and how the two men prove their love. At least from what I see.
“Why are you helping him?”
I actually find this particular scene rather nice. Sarah is going in to help Shaw, but Chuck loves her far too much to put her into harms way, and so he locks her into one of the cages and takes off himself. The little conversation they have is very settling in its own way. This is how Chuck shows his love for Sarah, which I think is much greater than taking her out to dinner and kissing her. The two only share a few words, but as the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. And in this case, that picture is of Sarah.
When Chuck first entered The Ring’s base, it automatically made me flash back to the season 3 finale and the new intersect. With all of the white and no colour in sight, it was a rather frightening sight. The next thing I expected to see was pictures flashing on the walls and Chuck being knocked out. But that didn’t happen, thank goodness.
“I love you, Sarah Walker. I always have.”
All right. Now onto my favourite part of the whole season. This is where all Charah fans screamed and jumped for joy, much like I did. I’m not kidding. Picture me dancing and jumping around my house for hours after this happened. I even did the dishes with an ecstatic smile on my face that still won’t leave. However, let me explain what happened and why it’s my favourite, besides the obvious. when Chuck came in and said that he loved her three time (count ‘em! three!), that’s when it first hit me. She still loved him. Always have, even through her Shaw escapade.
Just before they kissed, I waited. I waited for Shaw to walk in and stop them, but the thing is, it never happened. They actually kissed. It may have been a short one, but it has occurred nonetheless and it made me insatiably happy. And then after they kissed, they pressed their foreheads together and it was such a sweet moment that it was impossible to stop smiling. Neither of them smiled, though. The stared at each other for a second, and then Chuck made a quick exit, after telling Sarah that he loved her again, of course. Now they are to meet at the Union train station, like Prague, and run away together. Let’s all just pray that it won’t end like Prague, now will we?
So over all, this was probably my favourite episode of the season. It may have had a Shaw/Sarah kiss, but that lasted for a second tops, and the rest of it was amazing. The acting was superb, the plot magnificent, and it’s just leaving me wanting more. Feel the same way? Tell me about it, but don’t tell at me for my Shaw comments. They’re only my opinion, and you can have yours. I’ll have some screen shots up tomorrow, so look forward to those!
